Built in 1891 to replace the old Aktientheater, which had been ravaged by flames a year earlier, and known by the name of the Zurich Stadttheater up until 1964, the Zurich Opernhaus abandoned the classical music concerts and operetta presented up until 1926, with the inauguration of the Schauspielhaus.
